Women and men in the Black community trying to build a platform, build wealth, and build clout from wounded and assaulted Black women seeking healing, accountability, and justice must END. Enough.
We already know. Too large of a segment of the global population has no love for Black women. People want our style, our look, our spirit, our creativity, our essence, our je ne sais quoi …but not us.
Not our physical presence.
Not our representation.
Not our voices.
Not our health.
Not our safety.
Not our joy.
Our uniqueness is often misunderstood, admired, and resented. Concomitantly.
Listen to Black Women
Listen. The first time.
Listen when she says that she is afraid.
Listen to and respect her boundaries.
Listen to her disappointment and pain.
Enough treating our love, our loyalty, our labor, our beauty, and our bodies as if it all belongs to everyone but ourselves …those days are over.
Enough with Black leaders in the community tearing down wounded Black women just to uplift Black men …even when they are harming us. Enough.
But, in any case, because we are us, we just can’t help but rise.
And we continue to extend the invitation for others to rise with us.
