“This never happens.”
We have been here before.
But the women who raised concerns, alarms, and red flags over criminals and gender identification were mis-labled as “hateful”.
When a few brave women dared to question the motives and unintended consequences we were mis-labled as “hateful.”
When a few brave women dared to question whether a criminal has a right to compel the speech of victims, prosecutors, judges, and the entire community.
When a few brave women dared to question whether gender identity should have any bearing at all on sentencing we were mis-labled as “hateful.”
When women brought up any possible drawbacks and complications to self-id being prioritized above other more reliable identifying factors…some yelled: “This never happens!”
Whether they wish to admit that now or not, they were wrong.
Going forward….
Suspicion around gender identity is not “hate”. A healthy level of suspicion is necessary for safety and fact-finding.
To act especially outraged when women and girls do it is admitting that you do not believe that women are entitled to ask questions.
All you have to do is watch a Sci Fi movie to understand that failure to ask questions can have disastrous results. Failure to ask critical questions is an act of gullibility.
We must have more conversations around identification and the rights of specific groups. We must have conversations around gender identification and how it intersects with criminal and civil law.
Our conversations are going to include facts, statistics, reliable research, stories, and other testimony.
For some, this will be painful and triggering.
This ain’t never been easy for us, but we can do it.
(See race, religion, disability, youth, immigrants, and women vs. criminal and civil law…in other words, see history.)
But, there are 8 billion people on this planet. Every single one of them has human rights that align with their existence.
I have every faith in us. We can do this.
