It is graduation season.
I’m excited because that means new energy and new ideas to help solve what plagues us-domestic violence and sexual violence.
Any group of people that is silenced, mistreated, tortured, abused, and oppressed has every valid reason to be furious!!
I ask now what I have always asked….
How can we turn that into power?
How can we use that power to stop violence against women and children in our community?
As you look at these cases I hope that you can come up with solutions for women who find themselves living with their terrorists.
If they can’t call the police because perhaps you would disapprove, what would you have them do?
How would you keep them safe at 2 am on any given Sunday after someone’s favorite team loses a game and violence erupts….inside her home?
Where would you have her to go to be safe? For how long? Who will provide funding for this?
Is the place you would have her go to where she can be safe and free from control and intimidation?
Without relationship building and representation among police officers, prosecutors, medical investigators, judges, and lawyers; who will solve these crimes and get justice for families?
Without medical staff, therapists, counselors, and members of the faith community– who will help those left behind, the deeply traumatized and wounded–to heal?
It is valid, human, and perfectly normal to be furious about racism, misogyny, antisemitism, Islamaphobia, ableism, anti-Blackness, bigotry, …..just don’t live there.
Humanity depends on the Survivors to help find solutions.
Heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of all of these persons who have been senselessly taken from this life.
