When people are finally exposed for being abusive, manipulative, or harmful, we often hear the same tired phrase:
“Well… they had us all fooled.”
No. Let’s keep it real.
It was bigger than that.
🧱 Where Did You Stand in the Wall of Silence?
Let’s talk about how some of us treated the people who were trying to tell the truth:
Did we roll our eyes?
Did we say they were too sensitive or bitter?
Did we privately believe them—but stay publicly silent?
Did we avoid them to stay in good standing with someone more powerful?
Let’s stop pretending the only problem was that an abuser was deceptive.
The problem was also how we responded to the people who weren’t.
🧠 We Are Human—and That Means We Are Flawed
We are not perfect.
We are all capable of missing the mark. We do all miss the mark and fall short.
But if we truly want a world that’s safer and more just, we must be willing to examine how we show up when truth is uncomfortable.
It’s not enough to say, “I didn’t know.”
We have to ask:
“Why didn’t I listen?”
“Why did I stay silent?”
“Why did I defend the wrong things?”
🔄 The Reckoning Starts with Us
Being human means we are capable of hurting others and healing others.
But healing begins with truth:
Truth about who we defended
Truth about who we doubted
Truth about the ways we contributed to someone else’s isolation
💔 Survivors Remember
They remember who shut the door.
They remember who said “it’s not that serious.”
They remember who laughed at their warnings.
They remember who didn’t believe them—until it was too late.
✊ Stop Sugarcoating. Start Truth-Telling.
If we want better—safer families, safer communities, safer futures—then we must do better.
And doing better starts by being honest about:
The harm we saw
The voices we ignored
And the role we played, even in silence
There is no shame in growth.
But there is danger in denial.
Let’s not just move forward.
Let’s move forward with integrity this time.
