Abuse, in all its forms, devastates lives and communities.

For survivors, the pain is not only physical or emotional but deeply spiritual, often challenging their faith and trust. Churches are uniquely positioned to respond to this crisis because they are often seen as sanctuaries for those in need.

When individuals are hurting—whether from domestic violence, spiritual abuse, or other forms of harm—they frequently turn to their church family for comfort, hope, and guidance.

This sacred trust demands action. Churches can no longer afford to ignore the reality of abuse within their walls and communities. Instead, they must rise to the challenge of being both a refuge for survivors and a force for prevention.

By equipping leaders and congregations with the knowledge and tools to recognize, respond to, and prevent abuse, the church can become a beacon of healing and justice.

Together, we can demonstrate the compassion and accountability that reflect Christ’s love, ensuring that our places of worship are truly safe havens for all.

This tip sheet offers practical steps your church can take to protect the vulnerable, address abuse effectively, and foster an environment of safety, respect, and restoration. The time to act is now.
