Megan Thee Stallion was shot. A jury found Tory Lanez guilty. The system—however rarely—worked. And yet, years later, we are witnessing a disturbing trend: people with political power still working overtime to discredit a Black woman who survived gun violence.
Enter Anna Paulina Luna.
A Republican congresswoman. A vocal immigration opponent. And yet, she’s now advocating for Tory Lanez—a man who is not only a convicted felon, but a non-citizen of the US found guilty of shooting an unarmed woman.
Let’s name what this really is:
It’s not about justice. It’s about hierarchy.
When the victim is a Black woman, the system’s rules bend and twist.
Suddenly, “law and order” doesn’t matter.
Suddenly, “protect women” becomes optional.
Suddenly, violent crime isn’t that serious.
Suddenly, immigration status is not a concern.
Why? Because the victim is a Black woman.
This isn’t new.
We saw this when Tina Turner had to flee the country to heal.
We saw this when Anita Hill was met with doubt instead of dignity.
We see this every day when Black women’s pain is turned into memes, punchlines, or outright denial.
Black women are expected to be bulletproof.
But when we speak out—when we survive—we become targets again.
We support Megan Thee Stallion.
Not because she’s famous.
Not because she’s flawless.
But because she told the truth—and because the truth should matter more than celebrity alliances, misogyny, or political agendas.
Tory Lanez was convicted.
Megan survived.
That should be the end of the story.
But when you’re a Black woman, people keep flipping the page, trying to rewrite your truth.
When the victim is a Black woman, everything changes.
Republicans claim to be “tough on crime.”
They rail against immigration.
They claim to defend women.
But Tory Lanez—a non-citizen convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion—has Anna Paulina Luna’s full support.
Why? Because the victim is a Black woman.
That’s when the rules bend. That’s when “values” vanish. That’s when violence becomes negotiable.
We see it.
We name it.
We won’t forget it.
