Myth: It Doesn’t Hurt Women and Girls to ‘Be kind”
They Can’t Always Find the Right Words. But They Still Deserve to Be Heard.
Standing with Shanteari Weems and Other Women in Prison (Update)

person holding gray heart shape ornamentThere are few acts of violence as deliberately cruel and permanently scarring as an acid attack.

When a woman is attacked with acid, it is not just her skin that is targeted.
It’s her face, her identity, her spirit.
Her power.
Her voice.
Her refusal.

These attacks are not random.
They are punishment.

A punishment for saying no.
For choosing freedom.
For wanting to be seen.
For leaving.
For dreaming.

Acid is used with intention—to maim, disfigure, and isolate.
To make a woman feel like her very existence must now come with shame.
To make the world turn away from her before she even gets a chance to speak her truth.

But let’s be clear:

She is not the shame.
She is not the stain.
She is not the horror.
The act is. The attacker is.

These women are Survivors not because they were attacked—but because they have chosen to live, speak, rebuild, and demand justice in a world that too often stays silent when the violence is this ugly.

We must refuse to look away.
We must refuse to turn acid into a metaphor and forget the very real bodies it burns.
We must stand with women who bear these scars not by choice, but by the violence of men who saw power and feared it.

Let us never allow society to treat this as “rare” or “far away.”
Let us never see a disfigured face and forget that it belongs to someone whole, someone sacred, someone forever deserving of love, dignity, and peace.

For every woman who survived acid violence, this world owes you healing, justice, and the right to be seen.

And for those who did not survive, we say your names. We carry your stories. And we will not forget.

Gratitude and appreciation to shine @ladymysticalwmn on X who reminded us all to never forget these strong Survivors and to do MORE!

“Acid attacks are one of the most brutal forms of assault that have ever existed and have been used throughout history by men to punish women and girls who don’t want to marry or have any relationships. Women and girls are punished for not wanting relationships with any man.”
