Harvey Marcelin, a transgender serial killer who identifies as a lesbian and is currently in a women’s prison at Riker’s Island.

Harvey, who now calls himself Marceline, dismembered women after killing them and was profiled sympathetically by The New York Times last year (2022) after his arrest—despite having just been connected to the killing and dismemberment of a woman.

“Transgender people are far more likely to become victims of violence, not perpetrators,” read the NYT, which referred to him as female and appeared to attribute Marcelin’s history of violence against women as part of his gender identity conflict.

With two prior murder convictions, he was granted access to a shelter for women, where he was interacting with his third victim—despite objections from the staff.

One woman employed at a housing alternative for elderly residents was let go from her job after she complained that he was following her as she drove home.

Marcelin first began to ‘identify as a woman’ while in prison for his second murder, where he met a transgender inmate who encouraged him to take estrogen.

He described his male “side” as a “pimp” and blamed his female victims for inciting him to violence. “I tell them—there’s a side of me you don’t want to see… but they don’t listen.”

When asked about his tendency to erupt in a violent rage, Marcelin said his outbursts felt “liberating” as he could let his “macho side come out.” He went on to say that he “[covers] it up by being a woman” because he doesn’t like his “male rage.”
