Like Holistically Rah, I once built my whole personality around being nice and got the same results. I like people. Stories. Laughter. How we experience life so differently. I believe in carrying one another’s burden’s. But you can give so much that it hurts you and they still walk away truly believing you never gave them anything.

Now I try to think more about my health, my safety, my well-being, and my family. Things people do not think about when they are pushing you to be nice or “be kind”. I don’t personally call that selfish. I call that self care, a phrase coined by Audre Lorde. 

It’s taking practice. As a woman, I was raised and live in the same world you live in.
