Young people must not fall for the lie that only older women protect abusers.

The truth is, younger women—especially young Black women—are at the highest risk of femicide. According to the CDC, women between the ages of 18 to 24 face the highest rates of intimate partner violence. [Source: CDC Intimate Partner Violence Data, 2023]

And for Black women, the danger is even more acute—Black women under 25 are among the most at risk for being murdered by a current or former partner.

Every woman, of every age, deserves safety. Safe and healthy relationships reduce risk—but they do not eliminate it. Believing that your youth makes you immune is not just incorrect—it’s dangerous. Misinformation leaves women unprepared.

It teaches you to let your guard down when you most need to be rooted in truth and surrounded by support. Awareness is protection. Accountability is protection. Wisdom is protection.

No matter your age: you are worth safety. You are worth truth. You are worth being believed.
