I LOVE art. Art teaches so many lessons about humanity.
Here’s what controversial performance artist Marian Abramovic taught us about humanity and women’s safety…….(TRIGGER WARNING because it shows the disgusting side of humanity)
There was once a famous performance in New York by Marina AbramoviÄ â she stood still, silent, and allowed the audience to touch her, move her, even harm her if they chose.
And before long⌠they did.
That performance wasnât about her.
It was about us.
It showed how quickly people can become violent when someone stops protecting herself â when they think no one will intervene.
Thatâs why I say this with love:
You do not have to prove your goodness by how much pain you can endure.
You do not have to stand still while the world takes pieces of you.
You deserve safety. You deserve rest.
You are not required to hurt to be worthy.
People asking you to dismiss your own needs for their comfort, are asking you to become art, decoration in their life-an object.
And you are life!
Who makes sure that you are safe?
There are always people who will try to convince you that your health, safety, and well-being can wait â that itâs noble to put yourself last.
Be careful. Thatâs the same voice that tells women and girls to stay quiet, stay small, stay ânice.â
You deserve peace. You deserve protection. You deserve to live without constantly calculating how much danger you can survive.
If anyone â friend, family, faith leader, partner, or employer â asks you to set yourself on fire to keep them warm, that is not love.
You are not here to prove your endurance.
You are here to honor your worth and guard your own sacred life.
Because when you are safe, you shine.
And when you shine, we all see the way home.
