Why are people angry? I will tell you. This happens to nearly every victim who chooses themselves and the truth.
After a season of ambivalence and uncertainty, (not uncommon & normal, because when have you seen the world stand up and cheer when a Black woman came forward about being victimized by a man) Megan Thee Stallion chose not to live by “snitches get stiches”….she decided to live by her own rules.
Standing Up For Yourself Is Never Counted As a Win For Living Black Women
If their favorite game is “humble the Black woman” what else were they going to say?
Some people are saying Megan Thee Stallion “lost” her recent case. That is not true. What actually happened was this:
A court confirmed that lies, harassment, and deep-fake abuse are wrong (even if it is promotion or sharing). The person linked to a deep fake video about Megan was held accountable and called to answer for it in court and in front of the world.
To be clear: the court does not seem to have found that the blogger created the video. People should understand that that is NOT the standard and no one cares what people think about it anymore. People are just tired now. The internet has some age on it now and people are tired. Mainly tired of kids dying over this.
So back to this case, the dollar amount might not look like what people expected, but the truth she fought for stood firm — and that is the victory. This is huge but it is also bigger than this moment.
Let’s be honest: we all knew this moment would be twisted. Some folks were never going to give a Black woman Survivor — especially one who stood up for herself against male violence — the win she deserved. That’s not new. That’s history.
She didn’t wait for the world to crown her.
She crowned herself.
And that is what every Survivor is called to do. Crown yourself. In therapy or any healing space for that matter, this is a challenging lesson to learn. It goes against society’s grain. It is rare to find people who will tell you this AND support you in doing this. If you have folks like that around you, keep them close.
Beyond This Tragedy
Right now, young people are being destroyed by digital violence — deep-fake porn, lies, and cyberbullying that follow them everywhere. Some are so overwhelmed that they are losing hope. Some are dying by suicide because no one steps in soon enough.
This is not gossip. This is life and death.
Just as these children are going through this type of bullying, they see artists like Megan fight back tears on stage and prepare for battle….not death. A new door, a new window has been cracked open. Hope. What if I ban together with others and fight? That is life-giving.
Megan refusing to bow down showed every one of us that you can fight back. You can tell the truth out loud. You can push back against people who expect you to stay silent, broken, or ashamed.
To Every Survivor Reading This
There will be people who twist your pain.
There will be people who pretend your courage is arrogance.
There will be people who act like your proof is not enough.
They will never give you the credit you’ve earned — and that’s fine, because you don’t need permission to validate your own truth. If anything, Megan’s story is validation for those who thought “something must be wrong” with them. You can be popular with a massive amount of people, wealthy, and successful by Western definitions…….. and people will still want you to be silent about your pain. Still decide that you standing up for yourself is a “loss”.
NOW you know. More proof. It was never about you.
You are not here to convince those who benefit from your silence.
You are here to:
- Stand on what happened
- Stand on what you know
- Stand on your right to live free
- Stand on the truth that is yours
Your story is not up for debate with people who are committed to misunderstanding you.
What Megan Demonstrated
She showed us something priceless:
You don’t wait for the crowd to clap.
You don’t shrink because others are uncomfortable.
You don’t hand your power to people who never wanted you to have any.
The win was not the number.
The win was the boundary.
The win was her voice.
The win was her refusal to disappear.
And the same is true for YOU today.
If No One Has Told You Today
Your strength is real.
Your truth is real.
Your healing is real.
You gave yourself the victory when you decided:
“I refuse to be treated like my life doesn’t matter.”
You don’t have to prove anything to the people who want you broken. They were never the audience anyway.
You speak for the girl you once were.
You stand for the woman you are now.
You protect the future you will build.
Hold On to Yourself
Hate is loud.
Lies are fast.
But truth is eternal.
You are not defined by what was done to you.
You are defined by the fact that you are still here — still choosing yourself — in a world that expected you not to survive.
The point was never to please the crowd. The point was to protect your soul.
Standing up for yourself publicly is not petty or pretty— but that thing right there, that’s a powerful thing.
And everybody knows it.
If the disrespect happened in front of the whole world,
then standing up for yourself in front of the whole world isn’t overreacting
— it’s alignment.
The point is to answer public harm with public truth.
They counted on your silence. You chose your voice.
If the harm was public, so is your reclaiming.
That is not revenge — that is self reclamation.
