Nearly everywhere refers to this tragedy as a woman “killed in a love triangle.”

As others in the comment section of this video also noted, this was not a “love triangle” as the media has chosen to frame it.

Ex-girlfriend Jenny Li, 34 had begun dating someone new, Jamie Liang, 24. They were on a date. Yvonne Wu ambushed them shooting both women with her service weapon. Jamie Liang, the new relationship partner, did not survive.

The shooter and murderer Yvonne Wu accepted a deal allowing her to serve 27 years.

This is not a love triangle.
This is not gossip.
This is not drama.

This is domestic violence.
This is the deadly aftermath of control, entitlement, and unchecked power—carried out by a woman who was also a New York City police officer.

The media may try to paint this story with romance and rivalry, but here at WeSurviveAbuse, we call it what it is: a double shooting rooted in coercion, jealousy, and possession.

Three women’s lives were forever altered. One of them was murdered. This is not a plot twist. This is a pattern—and far too often, when women harm women, the world shrugs it off.

👁️‍🗨️ Why We’re Telling This Story

  • Because woman-on-woman violence exists—and Survivors in lesbian relationships are often ignored, disbelieved, or minimized.

  • Because when a police officer becomes a perpetrator, the systems that should protect instead shield, delay, or disappear.

  • Because calling it a “love triangle” is lazy reporting that erases the truth of what happened.

  • Because Survivors in same-sex relationships face unique layers of shame, fear, and isolation. And we refuse to let their stories go unnamed.

  • Because Survivors need to know: you are not overreacting. You are not imagining it. You are not alone.

Every Survivor deserves to be taken seriously—no matter the gender of the person who harmed them.

🧨 Let’s name what actually happened:

  • A woman and her new partner (or potential partner) went on a date.

  • They were tracked down, waited on, and shot.

  • One woman died.

  • The shooter was a trained NYPD officer, off-duty but armed, using her weapon for personal revenge.

  • The shooter even had a child with one of the victims—which often makes courts and media even more dismissive, framing it as “family drama.”

The parents of Jamie Liang are continuing to seek answers and damages. Our heartfelt condolences go out to them.
