Silence voices (even among each other).
Snatch away the ability to consent.
Rob all opportunities for advancement in education, body movement, visibility, and representation.
Loot innocence in girlhood. Then possess it through child marriage.
Forbid SINGING!
AND STILL, we have women in the West who believe that the path to safety and equity for women and girls is to center, uplift, and give away our hard-won rights…….. to men.
This must make women and girls with less than Western women feel especially hopeless.
Not even we unanimously believe that women and girls are worthy enough of rights and safety just for ourselves.
Not even we unanimously honor and appreciate the sacrifices, including the lives lost, of people who fought for the rights we have today. Out loud.
