When she is a target for control or harm.
Forced Sterilization (The Global Eugenics Playbook): From the targeted sterilization of Indigenous women in Peru and Canada to marginalized women in the United States and India, the state never has a “definition crisis” when identifying who to surgically prevent from reproducing.
Child Marriage: In regions across South Asia, West Africa, and the Middle East, societies know exactly who a “girl” is. There is no confusion about her sex when she is being pulled out of school to be married off at age 10 or 12.
Targeted Violence & FGM: Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and sex-selective abortion (gendercide) are practiced globally with surgical precision. The practitioners aren’t confused by “gendered nuances”—they are targeting a specific biological reality to enforce control.
Colonial Status Laws (The Indigenous Erasure): Historical laws like the Indian Act in Canada or colonial land laws in Africa specifically identified “Indian/Native women” to strip them of their status and land rights if they married outside the tribe. Their biology was the key used to dispossess them.
Victim Blaming (The “She Asked For It” Certainty): When girls are silenced after abuse or blamed for the “provocative” nature of their bodies, society suddenly has a PhD in female anatomy and its “distracting” effects on men.
When she asks for privacy, safety, or resources.
Single-Sex Spaces: The second women ask for sex-segregated domestic violence shelters, prisons, female carers in medical settings, female carers if preferred by a woman in her senior years, or locker rooms to ensure safety from male-pattern violence, the category of “woman” is suddenly declared a “social construct too complex to define.”
Sports and Scholarships : Categories created specifically to account for the biological reality of female lung capacity, bone density, and muscle mass are suddenly treated as “arbitrary” or “exclusionary” when biological males want to compete in them.
Medical Erasure (The “Birthing Person” Phenom): In Western policy and healthcare, the word “woman” is increasingly replaced by “pregnant people” or “menstruators.” Notice that we don’t use gender-neutral language for “prostate-owners,” only for the biological functions unique to females.
**This is an intentional political tool that is currently being used on women and girls but will later be used on every vulnerable human being on the planet.
| The System “Sees” a Woman When… | The System “Forgets” a Woman When… |
| It’s time to tax her “period products.” | She asks for a female-only bathroom. |
| It’s time to sterilize her without consent. | She wants to protect the category of female sports. |
| It’s time to marry her off as a child. | She asks for a domestic violence refuge. |
| It’s time to pay her 80 cents on the dollar. | She asks for a sex-disaggregated crime report. |
“They want us to be ‘human’ when we’re asking for protection, but ‘biological’ when they want to target us.
You can’t have it both ways—unless your goal is to make sure she never has a place to stand.”
Without giving up a single right or personal boundary, it is very possible to be humane and loving to everyone. Ask Black grandmothers. (because those are who I know and many in society rely on, please feel free to add the folks you know-especially those societies rely upon for care and nurturing.)
