In recent years, we’ve witnessed something powerful:
Young Black women—public figures, artists, creators—standing up, speaking out, and seeking safety through protective orders and court testimony.
They are doing this in the spotlight.
In front of millions.
Often with the world doubting, mocking, or dissecting their every move.
This is a new generation of Survivors. ……(Side bar: This GenXer is SO DAMN proud of Y’all!)
And they’re choosing to walk into systems that were not built with them in mind.
That takes unimaginable courage.
They are not waiting for permission to protect themselves.
They are modeling something brave, something holy.
But make no mistake—they will need us.
They will need support across all generations, all backgrounds, and all demographics.
This is not the time to be silent.
Dr. King once said that in the end, we remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
Let your support be loud.
Let it echo louder than the paid trolls.
Louder than the bots.
Louder than the crowd in matching T-shirts standing outside courtrooms trying to twist the truth.
Support these women.
Don’t wait for public consensus.
Don’t wait for evidence that convinces everyone.
Don’t wait for the moment to be safe or easy.
📊 The Truth Is:
47.1% of women who experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner reported that their first victimization occurred between the ages of 18–24.
More than 40% of Black women experience physical violence from an intimate partner during their lifetimes.
Black women are three times more likely to die as a result of intimate partner abuse than white women.
If we want the safer societies we always talk about,
if we want healthy relationships, safe children, whole families…
Then we must be that.
Don’t talk about it.
Be about it.
