but once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

It’s called future faking.
And it’s one of the softest-sounding, most soul-draining manipulation tactics out there.

💭 What Is Future Faking?

It’s when someone—often someone you love or trust—
makes big, beautiful promises about the future to keep you around today.

They tell you everything you’ve been longing to hear:

• “We’re going to get married.”

• “I’m going to change for real this time.”

• “Next year will be different, I promise.”

• “We’ll move away, just the two of us. You’ll see.”

And for a moment, it feels like hope.
Like maybe all the pain will have been worth it.
Like maybe they finally see you.

But then… nothing changes.
Time passes.
And those promises?
They float away, replaced by excuses.

🧠 Why It Happens

They’re not building a future with you.
They’re buying time.

They want:

• Your loyalty

• Your forgiveness

• Your body

• Your silence

• Your support

• Your energy

And the best way to keep getting all of that—without giving anything real in return—is to dangle a dream in front of you.

A dream they have no intention of actually creating with you.

Because many of us—especially those of us who are Survivors—cling to hope.
Hope kept us alive.
Hope made it bearable.
Hope helped us imagine something better.

Manipulative people know that.
And they use it.

They don’t just lie to you.
They lie to your healing, to your heart, to your vision of what life could be.

That’s why it hurts so deeply.
Because it’s not just betrayal.
It’s betrayal dressed as love.
