For people who work with and serve victims of violence and abuse, violation of spiritual boundaries is common. I have seen women’s entire families go against them to support an abusive man in the name of “religion” or “faith”.
Do they practice your faith and get everything right? Probably not.
Are they going to try to tell you how to practice it and what you are doing wrong? Absolutely.Â
Non religious or people who practice a different faith have to be mindful that we do not also use control tactics against women who practice faith. Women have come to advocates needing support in the work place, schools, etc… because people expect and demand control over women of faith.Â
đż What Are Spiritual Boundaries?
Spiritual boundaries are the invisible lines that protect your connection to what is sacred, nourishing, and true for you.
Theyâre the inner walls and gates that define:
what beliefs you embrace,
what spiritual practices feed your soul, and
what energies, teachings, or people you allow to influence your spirit.
They are how you protect your peace and your faith while walking through a world that often tries to dictate how, when, or even if you should believe.
đź Examples of Healthy Spiritual Boundaries
Knowing that your relationship with God, the Divine, or your ancestors is yours alone.
Choosing where and with whom you pray, worship, or meditate.
Declining to engage in spiritual debates that leave you drained or shamed.
Saying no to those who use scripture or spirituality as tools of control.
Holding space for silence, ritual, or solitude without needing to justify it.
Recognizing that you can question, evolve, and grow â without losing your faith.
In essence: your spiritual boundary protects your sacred relationship with the Divine from being hijacked by other peopleâs agendas.
đ How People Violate Spiritual Boundaries
Some examples:
Spiritual Coercion
Forcing you to pray, believe, or perform rituals their way.
Saying âa real believer wouldâŚâ or âif you were faithful, youâdâŚâ to manipulate your actions.
Spiritual Gaslighting
Dismissing your spiritual experiences or revelations as âwrongâ or âcrazy.â
Telling you your intuition or discernment isnât valid unless they approve it.
Religious Shaming
Using scripture to guilt you for setting boundaries, leaving abuse, or seeking justice.
Weaponizing forgiveness against you â demanding it as proof of holiness.
đş The Healing Reversal
Reclaiming spiritual boundaries is holy work.
Itâs saying: My faith is not for rent.
Itâs remembering that God, ancestors, and Spirit chose to commune with you directly â not through someone elseâs permission slip.
When you honor those boundaries, your spirit can breathe again.
You begin to heal not only from religious wounds, but from every place where your voice was told to hush in the name of âobedience.â
⨠Reflection Affirmation
âI am allowed to protect my spirit.
I am allowed to love God in the way my soul understands.
My peace is sacred.
My faith is my home â and I decide who crosses the threshold.â
