It’s so tricky out here these days…
Letâs make something abundantly clear:
Being an ally to a group, a cause, or a community does not require that women date anyone in that group.
Not ever.
Not under pressure.
Not to prove something.
Not to earn approval.
There are no romantic requirements in allyship.
Allyship is platonic. Full stop.
Say it again so it sticks:
Just because you show up for someone’s rightsâŚ
Just because you show up for justiceâŚ
Just because you show up for equityâŚ
That does not mean you owe anyone your body, your heart, your time, or your romantic energy.
Your personal choices are personal.
You are a human being. Not a political gesture. Not a prize for good behavior.
đ Here’s what you don’t owe anyone:
- A date, to prove you’re not “biased”
- A relationship, to validate someone’s humanity
- Intimacy, as a reward for being a “good guy” or a “safe person”
- Guilt, when your preferences or your boundaries don’t match someone else’s expectations
đŹ Because here’s the truth:
- You are allowed to be compassionate without being romantically involved.
- You are allowed to stand for justice without handing over your autonomy.
- You are allowed to evolve. Change. Reassess. Choose again.
- You are allowed to want what you want and protect what you need.
You do not owe anyone access to your life in exchange for being decent.
đ Survivor Affirmation:
My compassion is not a contract.
My allyship is not consent.
My no is not betrayal.
I am a human being â and my choices belong to me.
Say it until you believe it. Say it until nobody can talk you out of it again.
đŁ To every woman who’s ever been pressured to prove her values through her dating life:
You are not failing.
You are not hypocritical.
You are not confused.
Hear this clearly: someone else’s disappointment is not evidence that you did something wrong. It is just disappointment. It belongs to them. Not you.
You are simply honoring your truth â and you never need to apologize for that. Not to him. Not to the group chat. Not to anybody standing there with their arms crossed waiting for you to explain yourself.
Your no does not need a defense attorney. It stands on its own.
